5 Day Camp 10am – 2pm
Cost €150 with discounts for multiple bookings
** Early Bird available until 06/06/2016 **
The activities this year are all around the themes of botany, food science, pulleys and levers, acid and base chemistry and plastics. We do age appropriate experiments on those themes with one topic usually being taken each day. For the 4 day camp we will leave out some activities – this will be at the discretion of the leaders at each venue.
In botany, the children are going to learn about the parts of a flower and make labelled models, they are going to investigate the conditions required for seeds to grow, they are going to make grassheads, and other experiments and activities.
We have tons of food science experiments, testing jelly sweets, making and testing dough, making a deep freeze and using it to freezer their own ice cream and some sensory evaluation experiments.
For the pulley and lever section the children are going to investigate levers in everyday life including their own limbs – is a long lever better for kicking a ball than a short lever. The older children are going to make model bridges and cranes.
We are going to make plastic from milk.
We always have some experimenting with vinegar and bread soda – each year with a different objective.
A typical day is as follows:
10-10.15 introduction and review of previous day’s experiments
10.15 – 11.15 experiments
11.15-11.30 break – supervised and outside if possible
11.30 – 12.30 experiments
12.30 – 13.00 lunch break – supervised and outside if possible
13.00 – 14.00 experiments
